Do you think it's true that people who have new red cars have higher insurance bills?

Ivan B. asked:
I heard this on the news and from other people, but is it true. If you have a new red colored car can you tell me if your bills are higher than other people you know. I mean they said that even if the car is exactly the same and bought at the same time would the red one have higher insurance bills than the other colored one?

i don’t know if they have higher insurance rates, but i’ve heard from law enforcement that the most commonly ticketed cars are red and yellow, or any color that draws attention. i reckon if your the red car in the line of black and gray cars speeding your screwed!

I have had red cars and my insurance premium wasn’t any higher than any other color I’ve ever owned. Since I trade out every 2 years, I’ve owned a lot of vehicles of different colors. The cheapest premium I pay is on my SUV’s

i have heard the same thing even though i haven’t actually seen it proven, i have a red car and the insurance isn’t no more on it than it is anything else that i own,but i do know people with just two cars that they say there insurance agent told them their insurance was going to be a little bit higher because of the color of the car,it isn’t on mine because its an older car,but in some cases it has been known to be true, good luck hope this helps.

I have two cars one white and one Red and my insurance is the same for both. But I will tell you this much, having a red car police watch you more. That was a study done by All State insurance about 10 years ago, and I believe it to be true seeing how I have a red car (and I do mean real red).
*Insurance companies red line where you live (it’s against the law is some States, but they do it anyways). Red lining by higher theft rates, poor areas, and by race.

Urban myth. I’ve work in insurance for over 22 years and I can tell you with 100% certainty that
this is NOT true.

I think the association nis due to many sports cars being red: e.g., ferraries.

Colour has nothing to do with the rate, and it never has. When you get a quote, colour isn’t even asked, because it doesn’t matter until you actually register and insure the vehicle. A red Corvette costs the same to insure as a blue Corvette, and a red Malibu costs the same to insure as a green Malibu. And no, the colour makes no difference for tickets either, except red is a popular colour with sports cars that are driven by idiots. I have had red cars (have one now), green, beige, copper, and never, in 42 years, have I received a ticket driving a red car. I haven’t even been pulled over for a spot check in a red car, ever.
By the way, I am a licenced insurance broker, driver licence issuer, and registrations agent.
