It is a very lucrative career choice. I’ve been a recruiter in the medical industry for 12 years and this is one of the most needed careers out there today. The reason being that the hospitals and other healthcare facilities don’t receive reimbursement from medicare and medicaid if they don’t have enough coders to process and submit their bills to the gov’t and health insurance companies. Go for it and good luck!

Yes! With the health care industry on the rise, it is the perfect time to get start medical coding or medical billing training. Both of these positions are integral to the billing process of medical facilities nationwide. They help doctors and offices get paid accurately and on time, and thus, are really needed everywhere. The good thing is that it gets your foot in the door in a stable health care career and you don’t have to perform any clinical tasks. It’s an office job in a health care environment.
I was in a similar position a few years ago and decided to become a medical biller. I enrolled in an online medical billing program and found it to be the perfect fit with my busy life. I could still be there for my kids and kept my job until I finished. It worked really well – you just have to stay on top of the assignments and study pretty regularly. I enrolled with Allied Medical Schools and had a great experience. The live student support really made all of the difference.
Good luck with your new career!

i went through a 6 month course while at my last job. it got me hired at a multi specialty clinic doing billing, but i really didn’t learn much until employed, and the course was overpriced. my advice is to get an entrylevel position at a drs office and work your way up. then, do coding for a specialty, it’s easier to keep up with the changes, usually the pay is higher, and you can learn more about that one thing. good luck!!
