I recently saw a question that asked: I got billed from the hospital for 3000, the insurance said 1000 was eligible, and that 900 would be paid. All agreed that this individual would need to pay 100 because the hospital billed 3000, but the insurance only allowed 1000 and thus, the hospital had to contractually write-off the 2000.

I have a bill from the hospital, for ease, we will say for 2000. The insurance allowed 1500 and is paying 1300. But the hospital is asking me to pay 700. I don’t understand, doesn’t the hospital have to contractually write-off the 500?

This is making my husband and myself crazy! I am 6 months pregnant and the Insurance Handbook clearly states that all my prenatal care is covered, with the exception on the initial $30 co-pay at the first visit.

Here’s the problem:
My doctors office is called OBBYN Affilates and has 6 doctors. They registered with our insurance (Conventry Health) under the individual doctors names. When you search for a provider, it lists all 6 doctors as covered, but no where says OBGYN Offilates.

The billing office for the doctor keeps submitting claims under OBGYN Offilates, which is not recongnized by the insurance because this is not how they registered. So, we are getting charged a much higher out-of-network rate. The billing office is very rude and states that this is how they have always submitted there claims: OBGYN Offilates w/ the doctors name underneath. However, when looking at our claims on line, it does not say the doctors name anywhere and they are all denied with us owing a large portion. They wont even cover my routine ultrasound!

However, all my prenatal refills at the pharmacy are under the doctors name and they are approved!

We left a message for the office manager at my doctors office and are waiting for a call back. I already called them once and they did nothing.

I am really worried about the hospital bill if this is messed up now!

Any ideas on how to get this fixed? It is such a stupid problem, but no one will cooperate!

Yes, I wish knew this sooner! I had my first prenatal visit in May, but didnt start getting bills until the first of August and I was already out of my first trimester.

I used to do insurance billing for an optometrist, who also did my eye exams as well. When I first started there, I still had Vision Service Plan from my previous employer. My contact lenses are considered medically necessary because of my strong RX, however, I am very easy to fit for contacts because my RX has been stable for a few years, and I have no other problems. We had several other patients who also had medically necessary contacts, but most were more difficult to to fit. However, he was billing for the same amount of money for me as he was for people who required several follow-ups and multiple pairs of trial lenses in various RX’s. This seems unethical. Should I have reported this to VSP? I had no previous billing experiance prior to this, so I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

He was billing the actual lenses for about $200 more than he would bill the same lenses for if someone did not fall into the Medically necessary catagory. The same exact lenses. Also, when people had double coverage, and wanted non-prescription sunglasses, he would have us order a pair of glasses with RX lenses, then when they got there, he would take out the RX lenses and put plano tinted lenses in them. On occasion, he would have us bill VSP as the primary insurance when another company was in fact the primary insurer.
